Three days on the central coast
3 days First-timers · Couples · Short breaks Relaxed, one anchor town
Three days isn't long, so resist the urge to chase the whole region. Base in Lagos, keep the driving short, and let the coast do the work. This route trades quantity for the two or three Algarve experiences you'll actually remember.
Mornings are for beaches and water — they're empty and cool. Afternoons go slow. One evening, you drive west for the sunset everyone talks about.
Day 1
Lagos: old town and first swim
- Arrive, settle inside the old walls, and walk the morning bread run with a coffee.
- Down to Praia da Batata and the Ponta da Piedade staircase before the day-trippers.
- Sunset drinks on the marina side, then dinner at a tasca a few streets back.
Local tip — Book a dawn kayak for tomorrow tonight — the good slots sell out.

Ponta da Piedade & the cove beaches
- Early kayak into the Ponta da Piedade grottoes before the boats arrive.
- Drive 30 minutes east to walk the Marinha clifftop boardwalk and swim its cove.
- Late lunch of grilled fish, then a slow afternoon back in Lagos.
Local tip — Praia do Camilo's 200 steps are worth it before 9am — almost nobody's there.
Day 3
West to the end of the map
- Morning surf lesson at Beliche or a clifftop walk near Sagres.
- Lunch in Sagres village; visit the fortress on the spit.
- Hold the day for sunset at Cabo de São Vicente — the southwest tip of Europe.
Local tip — Pack a windbreaker. The cape is gusty even on a hot day.
